Ludwig II
- Born on 25th August 1845 in Schloss Nymphenburg
- King of Bavaria 1864–1886
- Died on 13th June 1886 in Lake Starnberg
Ludwig II, who was crowned king in 1864, made already in 1968 his first plans for Linderhof. However, neither the palace modelled on Versailles that was to be sited on the floor
of the valley nor the large Byzantine palace envisaged by Ludwig II were ever built.
Instead, the new building developed around the forester's house belonging to his father Maximilian II, which was located in the open space in front of the present palace and was used by the king
when crown prince on hunting expeditions with his father. Linderhof Palace, the eventual result of a long period of building and rebuilding, is the only large palace King Ludwig
II lived to see completed.
In 1873 King Ludwig II of Bavaria acquired the Herreninsel as the location for his Royal Palace of Herrenchiemsee (New Palace). Modelled on Versailles, this palace was built as a
"Temple of Fame" for King Louis XIV of France, whom the Bavarian monarch fervently admired.

Visit the the famous Hofbräuhaus!
The Hofbräuhaus am
Platzl is a beer hall in Munich, Germany, originally built in 1589 by Bavarian Duke Maximilian I as an extension of the Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München brewery. The general public was admitted
in 1828 by Ludwig I. The building was completely remodeled in 1897 by Max Littmann when the brewery moved to the suburbs. All of the rooms except the historic beer hall ("Schwemme") were
destroyed in the World War II bombings. The reopening of the Festival Hall in 1958 marked the end of the post-war restoration work.
