Then hotel in Palermo (4 nights).
Day 2: Good Friday - Erice and the "Processione dei misteri "
In the morning we drive to the extremely picturesque town of Erice, which was already known in antiquity for its Venus shrine. The highlight of the day, however, is Trapani, where in the afternoon for almost 400 years, the traditional Good Friday procession takes place, probably the most famous festival procession in Sicily. Thousands of saintly figures of saints are carried with fervor through the streets, other participants impressively represent Christ's stations of suffering. Before returning to Palermo.
Day 3: Holy Saturday - Palermo - Capital of Sicily
Today is dedicated to Palermo. In the living capital of Sicily, Palermo's 12th-century cathedral and the Palatine Chapel in the Norman Palace impress us. During our subsequent stroll through the historic old town, we then really get to know Palermo.
Day 4: Easter Sunday in Monreale and Prizzi
We spend the morning of Easter in Monreale, where we participate in the Easter service in the world-famous cathedral with its unique Byzantine gold mosaics. In the afternoon, we experience living Sicilian piety up close, when in Prizzi the famous "Ballo dei Diavoli" (Dance of the Devils) takes place. The dance symbolizes the never-ending battle between good and evil, in which devil-disguised inhabitants roam the streets and are symbolically defeated by Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Back to Palermo.
Day 5: Easter Monday - Cefalù and Tindari
Our day will take us first to the charming medieval coastal town of Cefalù, where we marvel at the magnificent Norman Dome with its magnificent gold mosaics. Then it continues along the northern coast of Sicily to Tindari. There, in a spectacular location on a cliff high above the sea, is the Sanctuary of the Black Madonna, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Sicily. The view from the sanctuary over the turquoise lagoons of Tindari is fantastic. In the late afternoon we reach the east coast (2 nights in the Acireale area).
