While enjoying this program you´ll be based in Feldkirch in Vorarlberg (Austria) an attractive, medieval small town right at the Swiss border.

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN Feldkirch/ Austria

Arrive in Feldkirch, a beautiful medieval small town in Austria, bordering Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany. Your designated Toggenburg Experience person in charge will pick you up at the train station and escort you to the hotel.

 

Feldkirch is a beautiful medieval town, which remains well preserved to this day, was mentioned as a city for the first time in 1218, after Count Hugo von Montfort built the Schattenburg, a castle which still is the major landmark of Feldkirch. Other sights in the town include the cathedral of St. Nikolaus from the late Gothic period. Feldkirch was the birthplace of Rheticus, and is currently the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Feldkirch.

Day 2: Breakfast in Austria – Lunch in Switzerland – Dinner in Germany!

 

Your 4-countries-program starts in the morning with a private visit of the medieval city of Feldkirch and Schattenburg Castle, only a few minutes walk away. Schattenburg Castle is perched on a rocky crest above the town. The castle was build the by the counts of Montfort, Vorarlberg´s most important ruling dynasty in the middle ages. The keep is thought to have been built in the middle of the 13th century.

 

See the impressive Armoury in the Keep, displaying not only a unique collection of spears and halberds from the 15th to the 18th century, but also Military rifles from the 18th and 19th century, as well as bomb fragments documenting the bombing of Feldkirch in 1943.

 

Admire the many antique rooms decorated with original furniture from the 17th and 18th century. After your tour of the museum, if you wish, a reserved table is waiting for you in the the castle restaurant ” Burgstube”, where you can enjoy the a 1 Foot-long “Wiener Schnitzel“

 

Individual return to the hotel. Afternoon at leisure. Enjoy the lively city of Feldkirch and its many shopping opportunities. 


After breakfast in Austria your dediated Toggenburg Experience representative will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the train station. Your first  stop will be St. Gallen in Switzerland. The compact metropolis of eastern Switzerland between Lake Constance and Appenzellerland has a charming, traffic-free old town and is worldwide known and appreciated for its reputable University, one of the best in the world, with a focus on economic sciences.

 

Enjoy a private visit of the famous Baroque Cathedrale and the unique Abbey Library, which houses some 140,000 documents – in part hand-written and over a thousand years old. The library probably also has Switzerland's most beautiful Rococo hall. The entire Abbey precinct was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1983. After lunch in Switzerland take a train from St. Gallen to Romanshorn (30 minutes) and continue by boat to cross Lake Constance (approx.1 hour). 

 

Arrive in Friedrichshafen, a lovely and lively town on the German side of Lake Constance. Visit the Zepplinmuseum! the "flying cigars"! Your private guide will explain you everything. 

 

Complete your visit to Friedrichshafen with a good coffee and applestrudel one of the numerous charming cafés and bars on the promenade along the shore or shop in the pretty streets of Friedrichshafen. It´s all right there.

 

Continue by train from Friedrichshafen to Lindau in Bavaria/Germany. The ride takes only 20 minutes. Lindau is an island in Lake Constance. Stroll along the lakeshore, visit the yacht harbour and enjoy good dinner in one of the Bavarian Restaurants. Return by train from Lindau to Feldkirch. 


Day 3: Lifestyle in Liechtenstein!

 

Morning at leisure. If it´s Tuesday or Saturday visit the beautiful and colourful market place in Feldkirch or you may enjoy a visit to the “Wildpark” hosting approx. 160 different species of animals.

 

Around noon time take a bus ride to Vaduz in Liechtenstein.

Liechtenstein is a small country situated on the banks of the Rhine in Central Europe, between the Swiss canton of St. Gallen and the Austrian province of Vorarlberg.The principality is a constitutional hereditary monarchy on a parliamentary and democratic basis. The head of state is Prince Hans-Adam II von Liechtenstein.

 

Upon arrival in Liechtenstein take the small "City Train" and during the short tour of approx.40 minutes you´ll see the highlights of the small principality. Free time in Vaduz. Return by bus to Feldkirch at your convenience. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
